Spotlight Pictures

This page will change periodically.  This is a place to see recent pictures of places, people, or events which we have really enjoyed.   Please remember all but the first picture are just thumbnails, click on any picture that you would like to see larger.  At the bottom of this page, you will find links to past Spotlight Pictures pages.

After a break we are back to enjoying our nations wonderful National Park System.  This spotlight pictures page features one of the most interesting but least visited parks in this system, Big Bend National Park in Texas.  This National Park is only rarely visited because of it's location.  It is definitely a destination park.  Also it is too hot for most people to visit in the summer, but it is stunning.  Even in the heat we had, which was around 108 degrees every day, plants are flowering and wildlife is flourishing.

Big Bend National Park is all about the Chihuahuan Desert and the Chisos Mountains.

1) A view of some of the many beautiful plants in front of the Chisos mountains.  The main plant you see above the cactus is called Ocotillo.  This plant is all over and very cool.  If it is too dry it simply looses all the little leaves and as soon as it rains all the leaves resprout.  2) If you look closely you can see both yellow and purple flowering bushes here.  3)  This is called the Strawberry Pitaya Cactus.  These bright pink flowers really stood out in the desert.  3) Another picture of the Rio Grande river.
